The Model BM 710 was designed by custom knife makers Bill McHenry and Jason Williams and premiers Benchmade's patented AXIS(TM) lock which was also designed by Bill and Jason. It looks simple enough, and it is, but it's the end result of a lot of hard work and perseverance by Bill and Jason, over the course of 4 years. The AXIS(TM) lock is totally ambidextrous and allows for easy one-handed opening and closing of the blade without your fingers ever being in the path of the blade. The design is very intuitive to operate with little or no instruction needed on how the lock functions: As simple as the lock is, perhaps its biggest selling feature- is its brute strength. In testing, the lock supported a negative load of over 200 pounds without damage. When the lock does finally fail, the liners simply crack over the locking pin, but at no time in Benchmade's testing would the blade have closed on the users hand. The AXIS(TM) lock features two "Omega" shaped springs that provide outstanding functional redundancy. The springs are lightly stressed and our tests show they should last indefinitely. In the unlikely event that one of the springs does fail, the other will still operate the knife just fine: Is this the strongest lock made? That's very difficult to say for certain. Benchmade claims that it's certainly more rugged than many of the typical lock-back and liner-locking knives. The double liners are heat-treated 420 stainless steel as is the locking-bar. There is a removable, stainless steel pocket-clip located on the butt end of the knife. This given clip location on the butt end is necessary due to the locking mechanism. If you consider it, every civilization both ancient and modern has historically developed its own variety of cutlery that is representative of its culture, ethnicity and cutting requirements at the time. Spyderco unveiled its first ethnic inspired knife with a Shabaria folder, reminiscent of classic Middle Eastern cutlery. Next up, a Japanese Tanto then a Chinese Folder. In 2003 we released a Persian knife followed by an Indonesian Karambit blade. The latest installment Spyderco's Ethnic Knife Series is a Kris folder designed by custom knifemaker Ed Schempp. Kris blades come in several diverse profiles but traditionally incorporate some form of a wave pattern in the blade. Historically they represented a Moro (Philippine) man's societal standing, provided talismanic benefits and were utilized for defense. The C105 Kris' curvy blade fundamentally becomes a cutting edge with oversized serrations, transforming its cutting properties. The curvy profile markedly continues into the handle providing a variety of grip options. This is the world's first folding knife with a blade of laminate powder steel, the market innovation Super Gold Powder Steel, SGPS. Powder steel is extremely costly and difficult to work with, and requires advanced technology in combination with experienced knifemakers. If a folding knife is subjected to heavy use, it will inevitably result in a skewed blade with unreliable blade locking, and no guarantees cover this. A modern folding knife should be cleaned regularly with warm water and detergent. Oil and fat should as far as possible be avoided, since today's knives have self-lubricating bearings. Fat and similar substances attract dust and dirt and increase wear rather than reducing it. The simplest way to sharpen the knife is with a fine diamond whetstone, and to obtain that final razor sharpness, use a ceramic whetstone: Warranty. We offer a two-year warranty covering defects in materials and in manufacture, i.e. faults that occur during manufacture but which are not noticed until the knife is used. We repair or replace the knife. The warranty is void if the knife is used incorrectly - the knife is intended for cutting with and is not for twisting, bending, chopping or hitting. Discolouring caused by blood, salt-water, or other corrosive substances is not covered by the warranty, neither is a broken tip. The warranty does not include the sheath: MOD U2.
