False- Summer Sun Sunflower
The Sunflower False, Summer Sun, 'Heliopsis helianthoides', is a perennial sunflower that blooms all summer. It is easy an easy to grow addition to any perennial bed. The Summer Sun also makes a nice cut flower. The flowers are 3 to 4 inches across and are yellow daisy-like with yellow centers. It is an excellent summer and fall screen or border. Keep the plants attractive by removing spent flowers. The Summer Sun would be an excellent addition to a wildflower patch or naturalized area receiving little or no care. (Heliopsis helianthoides)

Pastel Blend Balloon Flower
The Balloon Flower Pastel Blend, 'Platycodon grandiflorus', displays fascinating inflated buds that open to reveal star-shaped flowers. The flowers are 2 to 3 inches across. The unique green buds mature to violet, white, and rose colored flowers. The rose bells of the balloon flower are delicately accented with purple veining and creamy yellow stamens. Plant in early spring, 3 to 4 weeks before last spring frost, or as late as 2 months before the first fall frost. The Balloon Flower is a great cut flower. (Platycodon grandiflorus)

Grosse Bouclee Escarole
The Escarole Grosse Bouclee, 'Chicorium endiva', is a crackling, crisp, tender, snappy green that is a must green in Europe and for any salad. Grown properly, no green will match its flavor. There is a reason superb gourmet salads usually have Escarole, because Escarole adds flavor, texture, and visual appeal to any salad. Harvest in the fall after the first couple of light frosts because the flavor is actually improved after a light frost. In the spring, harvest before temperatures get above 90 degrees. Bronze-Smokey Fennel
The Fennel Bronze, 'Foeniculum vulgare', has stunningly beautiful, purple feathery plumes that provide a lacy contrast in the vegetable or flower garden. The Bronze Fennel is an absolutely dazzling, hard to find Fennel, that is used primarily for ornamental value and has tasty foliage and seeds. Fresh leaves can be sprinkled on salads or used in salad dressings. Plant in the spring 2 weeks before the last average frost date. Fennel does best in well drained, sandy soils with lots of organic matter. They need to be kept moist. (Foeniculum vulgare)

Detroit Dark Red Beet
The Beet Detroit Dark Red, 'Beta vulgaris', is a tender, sweet, tasty, and extremely nutritious root vegetable. The foliage is also highly regarded for taste and it has more iron than a hamburger. Home grown beets are delicious! The top growth is as tasty as chard or spinach. Detroit Dark Red Beets are great sliced and in salads. It is also a good container plant. In mild climates, seed can be sown September for February harvest. Beets prefer deep, well drained soil with lots of organic material. They need to be kept moist. (Beta vulgaris)

Fanfare Slicing Cucumber
The Cucumber Fanfare, 'Cucumis satiovus (Hybrid)', is an All America Winner. The Fanfare is a semi-dwarf plant that is resistant to many diseases, and is a great slicer. It is almost the perfect cucumber. The compact vines produce over a long period of time rather than all at once like some varieties. They produce quickly and taste great. Do not let cucumbers get too big because the vines stop producing if over mature cucumbers stay on the vine. (Cucumis satiovus (Hybrid))
